Betty Vowiell

Betty Vowiell passed away November 25, 2023. Betty was born on June 15, 1932, to parents Wayne Wheeler and Lucy Jane Wheeler (Ray) of Holton, Kansas. She graduated from Willow Springs High School in 1948. Betty married Bruce Vowiell on March 22, in Siloam Spring Arkansas with whom she shared two kids, son David Wayne and Dawn Marie Vowiell, and an honorary daughter Sandy Webber of Carl Junction whom she loved very much and has helped take care of her the last seven months.

Betty was an avid Christian and active church member of The Second Assembly of God in Joplin, Missouri, and Hutton Valley Church in Hutton Valley, Missouri. Betty worked at Walmart in the fabric department for twenty years in Joplin, Missouri before retiring at 80 and loved making all her great grandchildren’s Halloween costumes. Betty was a loving grandmother to grandson Jody Hutchison, wife Julie Hutchison of Joplin, granddaughter Maranda Lanham, husband Joesph Lanham of Joplin, and another grandson David Vowiell Jr of Kansas City.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister named Phylis and brother Virgil, her husband Bruce Vowiell and son David Vowiell, and little Jack Kerwin Vowiell. Betty is survived by daughter Dawn Vowiell of Joplin, two grandkids Jody Hutchison and Maranda Lanham of Joplin, and seven great-grandchildren: Dakota Hutchison, CheyAnne Hutchison (Conley Bellamy), Shawnee Hutchison, Skyla Hutchison, Jaxon Lanham (Chelsey Lanham) all of Joplin, Missouri and Ethan Vowiell, Ava Vowiell of Webb City, Missouri and Mia Vowiell of Kansas City Missouri as well as nine great-great grandkids and seven nieces. There will be no services per Betty’s wishes but there will be a committal of ashes in Willow Springs, Mo next to her husband at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Compassus hospice for the love and care they showed to Betty and her family.
