Brenda Sue (Carr) Johnson was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She left this world on
Saturday July 20 th at the age of 70 while battling an illness that had spanned decades.
She always spoke fondly of her grandparents Carl and Dora Sloan. She loved to tell stories from
when she was a child. Her grandfather was a Frisco engineer whom she loved dearly. Her
grandmother was an avid golfer and bowler who frequented the Monett Golf Course. She loved
spending time with them during the weekends during childhood, and adult years. Her mother
Elizabeth Miller preceded her in death in 2013, and her stepfather Richard Miller in 2020.
Elizabeth was a life-long hairdresser who had her own salon in her home – Liz’s Hen House.
Richard was an avid Civil War buff and loved everything history related.
She attended every sporting event for her son and cheered him on every game. She strongly
believed in organized sports to teach work ethics and discipline.
After graduation from Joplin High School in 1971, she pursued customer service roles, and
landed in the real estate market as a successful agent in the booming 80’s and early 90’s. It was
during this time that she met her loving husband John, and they were married on September 9,
1995, Winterset Iowa.
She loved to crochet because it reminded her of her grandmother, she loved Bob Dylan, and
she followed the St. Louis Cardinals regularly.
Brenda will be sadly missed by her husband John, her son Cory and wife Summer, two
stepchildren Jeff, Janet and husband Tim. She is also survived by two step grandchildren Logan
and Brylee.
There will be a memorial service in Joplin, MO at Ozark Memorial Park on August 1, 2024, at 2
pm. Check back for updates.
The family has requested not to send flowers, but to make a charitable donation to Tunnel to
Towers who helps veterans by providing mortgage-free homes.
