Cheryl “Sherri” Oaxaca (Lawrence)

June 28, 1946 – February 28, 2025

Cheryl “Sherri” Oaxaca, age 78, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at Mercy Hospital. She was born on June 28, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Stanton and Anna Lawrence (Zak).

Sherri is lovingly remembered by her brothers, Gene “Punky” Lawrence and Kenny Lawrence; her sisters-in-law, Delphia Lawrence and the late Marlene Lawrence; her son, Jon Lawrence, and daughter, Theresa (Lawrence) Dennison; her daughter-in-law, Amy Lawrence, and son-in-law, Tim Dennison; her grandchildren, Amber, Jason, and Scott; her granddaughter-in-law, Amber Dennison; and her cherished great-granddaughters, Josie and Aliyah.

Sherri was a determined and hardworking woman. She owned and operated The Personal Touch, a beauty salon where she built lifelong friendships and made people feel their best. Later in life, she earned her GED and went on to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She finished her professional career working in family services for a year, continuing her lifelong dedication to helping others.

Sherri had a heart for helping the outcast, always extending kindness and compassion to those in need. She loved cooking for her family and friends, bringing people together over a warm meal. In her later years, she enjoyed being a part of Faith Tabernacle in Joplin, where she found meaningful friendships.

A celebration of Sherri’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on March 8, 2025, at Faith Tabernacle in Joplin. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a meal provided by the church, in honor of Sherri’s love for hospitality and fellowship.

Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering determination will forever be remembered by those who knew her. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory, Joplin, MO.
