Gene Merriman

Gene Conrad Merriman Jr, 70, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on October 18, 2023 after battling cancer for over a year.

 Gene was born on December 27, 1952, to Gene Merriman Sr. and Jewel Dean Merriman and was raised in St Charles, Mo. After Gene graduated from Parkwood High School in 1971, Gene went on to study nursing graduating  from  Missouri Southern State College in 1978.

 Gene worked at several hospitals and healthcare facilities during his career. He spent his last 22 years at Freeman Hospital where he retired as an Administrator in 2013.    Gene was regarded at a mentor and a leader during his time at Freeman—well respected by all who worked with him.   While at Freeman he met Pam and they married in 2009. They had 14 wonderful years of marriage, spending their time together driving throughout the United States and seeing several National parks together.   Gene was known to be a voracious reader in his spare time and an avid history buff.  

Gene was preceded in death by his parents  Gene Merriman Sr and Jewel Dean Merriman.  He is survived by his wife Pam Merriman, his sons Jake and Josh Merriman  and Aaron Johnson, and his brother Ray Merriman.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 18th, 2023 at Ozark Cemetery in Joplin, MO for immediate family with a Celebration of Life to follow. The  Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Joplin MO from 1pm-4pm. We welcome all those who had the privilege of knowing Gene to stop by and share this time with us.
