
James (Jim) Derfelt Sadler of Joplin, MO, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Jim was born to Earnest and Violet (Brown) Sadler on March 15th, 1944. He spent much of his early years on the family farm in Sarcoxie, MO, where he developed a lifelong passion for gardening. Those who shared his love for gardening often sought his advice, and he was always eager to help.
Jim graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1962, where he was an outstanding athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. His greatest joy was watching his children play sports, and he also loved playing basketball with neighborhood kids.
In 1964, Jim met the love of his life, Beverly Jean Oxford, and they were united in marriage in 1966. Together, they raised three children: Tony (Lynn) Sadler, Travis (Melissa) Sadler, and Niki (Daron) Stripling.
Jim worked for Coca-Cola, Farmers Chemical, Tamko, and the City of Joplin, where he retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Frank, Earnest Jr., and Jerry, as well as his beloved granddaughter, Abby Sadler.
Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children; and his cherished grandchildren: Brittany, Trevor, Carson, Alex Sadler, Cody Sadler, McKinzy Ackerson, Nathan Stripling, and Madison Pennington. He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery of Joplin, MO. and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
