Melvin Farrell McDowell, 82, of Neosho, MO, passed away on December 15, 2022 after a
short illness.
Melvin was born on April 20, 1940 to Farrell and Zona McDowell in Council Bluffs, IA.
Melvin married Elizabeth (Ogden) McDowell on September 27, 1961. They celebrated 61
years of marriage in 2022.
Melvin retired from Freeman Health in 2016.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by two sisters, Marlene Malone and Judy Mueller; and daughter-n-law Rhonda McDowell. Surviving in addition to his wife, Elizabeth McDowell, are his daughter Bethla Curtis of Neosho, MO; son Michael
McDowell and his wife Kim, of Afton, OK; son Kenneth McDowell and his wife Lori, of
Briscoe, TX; daughter Sandra Oliver and her husband Jeff, of Joplin, MO; son Gary
McDowell, of Neosho, MO; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren;
and two great-great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 6pm Monday, December 19 th at Racine Christian
Church, 12218 State Hwy K, Racine, MO. At Melvin’s request there will be no funeral service. There will be a private service for family members at a later date.
