Nicholas Joseph Rohmiller, beloved husband, dad, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 96. Born a New Year’s Day baby on January 1, 1928, in rural Welch, Craig County, Oklahoma, Nick was the 10th child of the late Nicholas and Martha (Uhl) Rohmiller. He was raised on a farm so there was plenty of work. After chores, homework was done by the light of an oil lamp.
Nick graduated from Welch High School in 1947. In 1949, Nick married Lavenia B. Griffith and they lived in their loving first home in Welch, later moving to Miami, where they raised their three children: Ronald, Reed and Tracy. He worked at the BF Goodrich plant in Miami for 39 years until retiring in 1986 when the plant closed. Nick and Lavenia enjoyed their travels to rodeos across the United States. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was an avid reader of current events. Nick was a compassionate person, including caring for his older siblings as they aged. Nick was a Boy Scout leader whose camp name was Trusted One, and recieved the Silver Beaver Award. He participated in Jamborees, experienced Philmont Scout Ranch twice, in northern New Mexico, and had an affinity for Eagles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Lavenia, Nick’s wife of 75 years, preceded him in death by six days. Always the gentleman, he ensured her safe passing then followed. Nick’s brothers, Frank, Andrew, Henry, Clarence, Harold and John, and sisters, Anna Shields, Esther Lester and Evelyn Parks preceded him in death. Nick is survived by his children, Ron (Mandy), Reed (Annie), and Tracy (Chris Detherage); three grandchildren, J.R. Rohmiller (Mary), Emily Romeu, and Travis Detherage; and two great grandchildren, Zach and Lucy Rohmiller; as well as nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews that continually visited, phoned and supported Nick and Lavenia. A joint celebration of lives of Nick and Lavenia is pending for spring 2025.
The family thanks all the loving family members, friends and Comforting Hands Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory of Joplin, MO.
