Raymond Lee “Toosie” McAnally, 70, of Anderson, MO passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer on September 30th, 2023, with his children by his side. Raymond’s story started on February 5th, 1953, born to Jesse and Thelma McAnally in El Paso, TX. As he was Thelma’s second child, she subsequently deemed him “Toosie”….and thus a legend was brought to Missouri.
From the moment he was born, Toosie proved to be one hardheaded son of a gun! Always determined to do things his way, he blazed his own path through life with grit, hard work, determination and lots of laughter. If he wasn’t building something, or fixing something, or working on something, then he was busy making jokes. His gruff exterior and stern scowl would usually be replaced by his smiling eyes and infectious belly laugh. Besides his children of course, his other pride and joys in life were the things he created with his own two hands. Along with his green thumb, those hands built two amazing homes that he raised his children in, a huge 3 car shop which became his Toosie’s Automotive business, he helped build the riverside dance club Shadow Lake in Noel, MO (his “Built by Toosie” plaque is still hanging there today), who knows how many bridges in KC he had a hand in building along with numerous other buildings and structures that will last for many more years to come. The man, the myth, the legend….
Toosie will be missed by: his children, Krista (John) Mallas, Toosie Lee “TJ” McAnally, Brandy Tracy, Brittany (Chris) Borroto, and Javen Wilcox; his granddaughters, Hailey, Kaitlyn, Kasha, & Kiera; his grandsons, Nick, Eli, Zack and Leon; his siblings, Bud (Janiece) McAnally, Donnie (Donna) McAnally, Bob McAnally, & Georgia Larey; and so many nieces and nephews and a plethora of other family and friends that we would need several pages to list them all.
He joins those gone too soon: His parents, Jesse and Thelma (Shaw) McAnally; grandson, Trezy Aiden Lee Cash-McAnally; brothers, Joe McAnally and Harold (Paula) McAnally; and niece, Chastity.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is in the works and will be announced soon. Please email your favorite Toosie jokes to kristamallas@yahoo.com or bring it with you to the service.
