Roger Glyn Bastings, 73, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on February 28, 1951, in Neosho, MO, he was the son of Alfred and Mary Jane Bastings. He is survived by his wife Sharon, of Carthage, MO. One son Scott Bastings and wife Jennie and one granddaughter Claire. Two brothers, Gene Bastings and wife Betty, Danny Bastings and wife Janice, and one sister, Susan Bastings and husband Jeff. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and loved ones. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, one son Brian Bastings, and two brothers Robert Bastings and Eddie Bastings.
Roger grew up in Lakeside and enlisted in the Army National Guard at 18. He married his wife Sharon on September 24, 1994. Roger was a maintenance supervisor at Butterball until retirement. After retirement he and Sharon enjoyed many things but their love for camping was at the forefront; and they would often take their RV to Stockton Lake with a group of friends.
Roger was an avid craftsman. Throughout his life he pursued building, woodworking, bladesmithing, leather stamping, and most recently making and painting fishing lures. He had a deep joy for life, was devoted to his family and adored his only granddaughter. Roger was always willing to lend a helping hand or share his experiences to help others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship that will be deeply missed by many.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park of Joplin, MO.
