Valerie Bate, born October 18, 1956, in Inglewood, California, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was 68 years old.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Hund and Sue A., as well as her Uncle Harold and Aunt Snooks. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Carla Hoeker, Mike Hund, John Hund and Greg Hund; her children: Jaime Hund, Taylor Hund, and Dakota Bate; her grandchildren: Jacob Booe, Jocellyn Hund, Jannesa Praylow, Teyvion Hund, Takori Moore and Travonte Moore; and her great-grandson Joshua Jones.
Valerie grew up in Lakewood with her parents and four siblings. In 1994, she moved to Neosho, Missouri, with her daughters Jaime and Taylor and her father Carl. There she embraced the slower pace of life that Missouri offered and built a fulfilling career as a mortgage officer before retiring. In retirement, Valerie found joy working at the local farmers market and library in Neosho.
Known for her vibrant personality and warm spirit, Valerie had a passion for gardening and reading. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandson. Often described as a “spitfire,” she was also remembered for her selflessness and ability to make everyone feel welcome.
A service for immediate family and close friends will be held at St. Canera’s Catholic Church(504 S. Washington, Neosho, MO) at 12:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life open to all at The Kelli Club(209 N Valley St, Neosho, MO) at 2:30 p.m.
Valerie’s memory will live on through the love she shared with her family and the many lives she touched. May those who knew her find comfort in remembering the joy she brought into their lives.
