Velma Lassiter was born December 16th, 1952 in Joplin, MO to Carl and Freda Palmer. She departed this life on October 14th, 2023 in Mercy Hospital at the age of 70, surrounded by family & friends.
Velma and anyone that knows her would agree that her most important titles were, Mother, Nana, Daughter, and Sister. The love Velma had for her family was unequivocally powerful and each one of them were her priorities.
When she wasn’t fulfilling one of those titles, she worked as a nurse for a majority of her life. Velma spent most of that time working in labor/delivery caring for newborn babies and new mommies. Her co-workers loved her, and her patients would always leave personalized notes thanking her for her unique care. She had just recently retired from Freeman Hospital in December of 2022. Taking care of others was her passion. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Velma. Her laugh was infectious and her personality was sassy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister Sesty.
She is survived by son, Kevin Green and wife Michelle. Daughter, Natasha Anderson and husband Will. Sister, Lois and Brother Larry. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jonathan, Tiffany, Quinton, Brecklyn and Brynnlee, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
A celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a later date.

My heart is torn in half over the loss of my sister. Life will never be the same without her. Her passing came out of left field. Was so unexpected. Had I known that when she left that morning to go to the hospital to have a procedure done and that she would not be returning home I would have let her know just what she means to me.
