Michael Standley

Michael D. Standley, age 49, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home following a short battle with liver and kidney failure. He was born October 5, 1974, in Parsons to William “Bill” and Virginia “Ginny” (Stover) Standley.


He attended school in Parsons and graduated in 1993. He worked various jobs throughout his life and most were focused on mechanics. If it had a motor, he could probably fix it. He’d been working as a boiler operator for the PSHTC for the past 10 years. Prior to that he worked for Harpers Automotive for about 13 years as a mechanic.


Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He could often be found outside enjoying the warm weather and messing around in one garage or another, sitting around a fire in the fall while listening to music, and riding his Harley. He was a big Raiders fan and enjoyed the banter it caused. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, dominoes, and Yahtzee. He enjoyed cooking and pretending he was a master chef when plating his guests’ food. Survivors include his 6 children; daughter Shelby Schievelbein (Alex) of Iola; son Michael Standley Jr (Kyleigh) of Kansas City; daughter Jarin Bennett of Wichita; daughter Jentri Standley of Wichita; son Avery Stalford (Grace) of Olathe; son Drake Standley of Parsons and his fiancée Trisha Robb of Parsons. Other survivors include his mother Virginia of Parsons; 3 sisters Melanie Standley of Parsons; Monica Thornburg of Mt Vernon, Mo and Michelle Quick (Donovan) of Apple Valley, Ca. Numerous nieces, nephews, and 9 grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his father William “Bill” Standley.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 27 th at the Arvon Phillips Community Center from 4-6pm. For those who would like to gather together for a toast to Michael please meet at Ballers at 7pm.
