Ray A. Marks

Ray Allen Marks passed away July 1, 2022, in Tulsa Oklahoma. He was 78 years old. He was born in
Goshen, Indiana on May 8, 1944, to Louis Fern Weldy Marks and Lowell Ray Marks. He was the oldest of
three.
Ray graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1962. While living at home during his school years,
he helped his dad on a mobile feed mill that his parents operated, which he had many fond memories of.
After graduating high school, he went on to receive formal training in diesel mechanics in St. Louis,
Missouri and worked in that field for many years both in Goshen, Indiana and Thomas, Oklahoma. In
1989, he and his family moved to Neosho, Missouri to manage a turkey farm. He was later employed
with Leggit and Platt in Carthage, Missouri from which he retired in 2006.
He volunteered at Watered Gardens in Joplin and was very active in his church, Joplin Family Worship
Center as a greeter and helping in any way he could. He had several trailers and could always be found
helping someone move, giving a ride or whatever was needed at the time. To quote from Ray’s senior
yearbook: “Never ruffled…. dependable…. quiet and unassuming personality…always willing to lend a
hand”
He married Susie N. Schrock Marks on October 4, 1969 and had 4 children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois, Lowell and former wife Susie. He is survived by his sister
Naomi Marks Otto of Goshen, Indiana; brother Terry and wife Anna Mae Marks of Holtwood,
Pennsylvania; son Daniel and wife Sherri of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter Juanita Marks of Tulsa, Oklahoma;
daughter Barbara Marks Betz and husband Larry Betz of Conway, Arkansas; daughter Karen Marks Still
and husband Paul Still of Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandchildren Ila, Zayda and husband Marc, Ciera, Gavin,
Caleb, Silas, Landon, Audrey, Candice and Asher and great grandchildren, Gwendelyn and Waylon Kade.
A memorial service will be held at Joplin Family Worship Center, Joplin, Missouri, on July 9, 2022 at 10:00
a.m. Interment will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Missouri.
